Functions of Digital Public Telephones (only gray model)

Screen Display

A screen display shows the number dialed, the remaining call units, coins, and/or time (when less than 3 minutes remain), an operating guide, volume level, etc.

On-Hook Button

When the on-hook button is pressed, calls can be dialed without lifting the receiver. You can start talking by lifting the receiver once your party answers.

Terminal Connection Port

Permits calls and data transmission by connecting analog or digital terminals (ISDN terminals).

Volume Control Button

Allows for five-level volume control.

Data Communications Button

Switches between the public telephone and a connected terminal.

No-Display Button

Pressing this button prevents the called number from being shown on the display screen.

Display Switch Button

Pressing this button shifts the display between Japanese and English.

Notes:

  • *For services that do not require immediate charge payment such as Free Dial, Collect Calls, Credit Calls and calls to Dial 113, 229 and 110, connections can be made by simply dialing the number after listening for the dial tone. It is not necessary to insert a card or coins for such calls.
  • *Whether a “Data Communications” or “Switch” button is included and the “Functions” available differs according to the type of public telephone.

Data Communications(only gray model)

Please follow the procedures below to carry out data communications by connecting a PC, facsimile, portable terminal, etc., to the external terminal connection port.

  1. Insert the modular plug into the “Digital” connection port (8-pin port) if the connected terminal uses a digital format, or the “Analog” connection port (6-pin port) if the connected terminal uses an analog format.

  2. Push the “Data Communications” button (or the “Switch” button on some types of phones).
  3. Insert a magnetic telephone card or the required coins.

  4. Originate communications (dial) by using the connected terminal (touch-tone dialing). Dialing the public telephone will not originate communications.
  5. Start the communications when your party answers.

Notes:

  • *Terminals that can be connected to a “Digital” connection port are limited to Basic interface (INS-Net 64) units that conform to TTC standards;
  • *both “Digital” and “Analog” ports are available on digital public telephones.

Using an analog terminal not equipped with an origination function

If an analog terminal is not equipped with an origination function, the following procedures can be used to conduct communications.

  1. Insert the modular plug of the terminal into the connection port.
  2. Push the “On-Hook” button (or lift the receiver), and insert a card or required coins.
  3. Dial the public telephone.
  4. When your party answers, press the “Switch” or “Data Communications” button.
  5. Communications will be started.

Notes:

  • *Please use a terminal that conforms to the specified technical standards;
  • *communications may not be possible if the connected terminal is capable of high-speed transmissions.
