NTT Announces New Discount Services

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East Corporation (NTT East) and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corporation (NTT West) today submitted notification to the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of providing four new types of discount telephone services to further improve our customer convenience. The following new services will be offered beginning from October 1, in conjunction with a reduction in our regular telephone charges.

1.

Discount service for intra-prefectural calls: Kenta-kun
2. Discount service for entire companies: Wari-max
3. Discount service for individual places of business: Wari-big
4. Special discount service for schools (full-scale implementation): i-school

Please refer to the following attachments for the details of each service plan.

1. Discount Service for Intra-Prefectural Calls: Kenta-kun

Customers who register for the Kentakun service will receive discounts on the intra-prefectural calls (including calls within the same city) to the three telephone numbers* for which they incur the highest charges each month, once the total monthly charges for the calls to these three numbers surpass 1,500 yen.

*

These three telephone numbers will be automatically determined by NTT each month based on each customer's calling record.

1. Discount Service for Intra-Prefectural Calls: Kenta-kun
Notes:
1. There is no fixed monthly charge for the Kentakun service.

"Intra-prefecture" refers to the areas as defined by Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Ordinance No. 24 of 1999 (in effect from July 1, 1999), and sometimes differs from the prefectural boundaries as defined for government administration. "Local" calls (within the same city) are defined as those calls for which the regular telephone charges during the daytime and nighttime time bands are 10 yen for three minutes. "Elsewhere in the same prefecture" refers to areas within the same prefecture aside from local calls.

2.

The recording of data for every column on the detailed monthly fee statements is a precondition for using the Kentakun service.

3.

Fees for calls to mobile telephones, information fees, handling fees, and interconnection fees are not eligible for the Kenta-kun service discount.

4.

Customers may utilize a maximum of three discount services simultaneously, including the Kenta-kun service. When customers use Time Plus, i-ai Plan, or certain other discount services together with the Kenta-kun service, the calls for which fees are discounted under these services are not eligible for additional discounts under the Kenta-kun service. Please contact NTT for further information.

2. Discount Service for Entire Companies: Wari-max

Companies that register for the Warimax service will receive discounts each month on local calls and other intra-prefectural calls, in accordance with their total monthly charges for intra-prefectural calls from multiple places of business (headquarters, branch offices, sales offices, etc.)

2. Discount Service for Entire Companies: Wari-max
Notes:
1. There is no fixed monthly charge for the Wari-max service.

2.

The recording of data on the detailed monthly fee statements is a precondition for using the Wari-max service.

3.

Fees for calls to mobile telephones, information fees, handling fees, and interconnection fees are not eligible for the Wari-max service discount.

4.

Multiple lines may be registered as a "single discount group" as long as they are in accordance with the criteria separately stipulated by NTT.

5.

Companies may utilize a maximum of three discount services simultaneously, including the Wari-max service. When companies use Time Plus, i-ai Plan, or certain other discount services together with the Wari-max service, the calls for which fees are discounted under these services are not eligible for additional discounts under the Wari-max service. Please contact NTT for further information.

3. Discount Service for Individual Places of Business: Wari-big

Companies that register for the Waribig service will receive discounts each month on local calls and other intra-prefectural calls, in accordance with their total monthly charges for intra-prefectural calls from a single place of business.

3. Discount Service for Individual Places of Business: Wari-big
Notes:
1. There is no fixed monthly charge for the Wari-big service.

2.

The recording of data on the detailed monthly fee statements is a precondition for using the Waribig service.

3.

Fees for calls to mobile telephones, information fees, handling fees, and interconnection fees are not eligible for the Wari-big service discount.

4.

Multiple lines may be registered as a "single discount group" as long as they are in accordance with the criteria separately stipulated by NTT.

5.

When customers use Time Plus, i-ai Plan, or certain other discount services together with the Wari-big service, the calls for which fees are discounted under these services are not eligible for additional discounts under the Wari-big service. Please contact NTT for further information.

4. Special Discount Service for Schools (Full-Scale Implementation): i-school

As the trial provision of the i-school service, which began from September 1999, has proceeded favorably and there is a growing demand from customers for the continuation of this service, NTT has decided to provide the i-school service on a full-scale basis.

With this full-scale provision, the fixed monthly fees for this service will be reduced from the 8,500 yen per month charged during the trial period to 3,500 yen. Additionally, the restriction of one circuit per school implemented during the trial period will be removed.

NTT will continue to promote the spread of Internet usage at Japanese schools.

4. Special Discount Service for Schools (Full-Scale Implementation): i-school
Notes:
1. The fee calculation method under of the i-school service is based on the charges per call, as under regular telephone services, with charges of 10 yen for up to three minutes during the daytime and evening time bands (from 8am to 11pm) and 10 yen for up to four minutes during the late night time band (from 11pm to 8am). Accordingly, for example, the fee for sending a single e-mail message or for other connections that require less than three minutes is still calculated as 10 yen.

2.

The recording of data for every column on the detailed monthly fee statements is a precondition for using the i-school service.

3.

Fees for calls to mobile telephones, information fees, handling fees, and interconnection fees are not eligible for the i-school service discount.

4.

Schools may presently utilize a maximum of two discount services simultaneously, including the i-school service. However, from December 2000, NTT plans to permit the use of three discount services simultaneously.

5.

When schools utilize multiple discount services, the telephone number registered for the i-school service will only receive the i-school service discount. Discounts under other service plans will not be applied to this telephone number.
