VI. Exploring Broadband market

For the future growth of the NTT Group, we consider it is essential for our business domains to expand into new areas, not to limit to conventional communications. Taking advantages of Group operation, we explore new business areas such as broadband-related business fields.

(1) Implementing fast and broad access network
[Fixed Line]
a) As for Fiber-optic access services and DSL, service areas will be broaden as soon as possible while taking account financial conditions.
- Fiber-optic access service, "B-FLET'S": to prefectural capitals and other cities of equivalent size by FY2003, to most municipal cities by FY2005
- DSL service, "FLET'S ADSL": to cover almost the entire country by FY2002
b) From the standpoint of promoting DSL services, implementing a new analog phone service menu that does not require installation fee as INS Light doesn't.

[Mobile Communications]
a) In order to realize enhanced and fast mobile computing, NTT DoCoMo launched its world-leading next generation mobile communication services, "FOMA", since October 2001.
(The service areas will be expand to major cities across Japan around April 2002, the service should be available to 97% of the Japanese population.)

Exploring contents distribution market
a) Each Group company, such as NTT-BB, will provide broadband contents distribution services, fully utilizing the advantages of Fiber-optic / DSL access or next generation mobile communication.
